Shendao Acupuncture

In 2002, I opened my clinic, Shendao Acupuncture in Honolulu, Hawaii. I am board certified and licensed in Hawaii & Texas.

I graduated from Tai Hsuan, later to be

named World Medicine Institute in 2001 with a Masters in Science of  Oriental Medicine degree (MSOM). I studied under Dr. Chang Yi Hsiang, a 64th generation Taoist master. In 2004, I began studying the KMS ( Kiiko Matsumoto Style).  My  acupuncture style is influenced by these two masters.

 After practicing over  20 years

in Honolulu, Hawaii, I am now in Magnolia, Texas accepting new patients.  I am dedicated to promoting healthy, holistic  practices to achieve optimum health and balance.

My treatments do not just focus on treating the symptoms—but rather to finding and addressing  the root of the imbalance, often before it manifests into symptoms. Schedule an appointment to begin your healing process.

FAQ

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that has been practiced for thousands of years. It involves inserting thin, sterile needles into specific points on the body, known as acupuncture points or acupoints. These acupoints are located along meridians, which are pathways through which vital energy, called Qi, flows. By stimulating these acupoints, acupuncture aims to restore balance of Qi and promote the body's natural healing abilities.

What are the benefits of acupuncture?

Assisting the body towards homeostasis is the main effect of acupuncture.   Our body is always working towards maintaining this balance.  However, stress can make that job more difficult. Acupuncture promotes circulation, reduces pain, and stimulates the release of natural pain-relieving chemicals. It is commonly used for pain management, as well as a broad range of conditions. It is used as a treatment for digestive disorders, respiratory issues, emotional imbalances, neurological conditions, chronic conditions as well as acute conditions. One of the many powerful skills I have learned  from my teacher, Kiiko Matsumoto, is how to detect portal vein congestion. This is the blood flow which nourishes the liver becoming  sluggish. It is my job to find the correct acupoints to allow for improvement of blood circulation to the liver. This portal vein gets congested from stress  (physical, chemical, emotional) and it happens to us all. A happy liver is a happy body. An unhappy liver is very often the underlying root of many imbalances.

What is my approach to acupuncture?

Regardless of the chief complaints, also known as  the symptoms a patient has, I will do a thorough exam at each appointment. This is to identify the underlying root of the imbalance which is being expressed as the symptom. If there are no symptoms presenting, I still do the examination to detect and address imbalances before symptoms manifest  (preventative care). For example, all migraines are not caused from the same imbalances and each patient who presents with a migraine will most likely receive very different treatments.  This is individualized, very custom care.

Who is a candidate for receiving acupuncture?

People who are seeking wellness and preventative care are candidates for receiving acupuncture as well as people who are experiencing symptoms due to imbalances.  Basically, nothing "needs to be wrong" to receive acupuncture. We adapt to stress, and receiving acupuncture creates a re-set to our being-ness  and  reminds ourselves what relaxation feels like.
